Some interesting facts you should know about 16 Cylinder Stirling Engine
It is good to know a little about the history of Stirling Engines as it will help you understand why they are very popular still to this day. These motors were designed by Dr. Robert Stirling. The history of these engines started back 200 years. The motivation behind this invention came from the children doing heavy and hard work in coal mines in Scotland. In 1816, Robert Stirling and his brother wanted to invent the motor which would use less fuel using an extremely new principle. The simplicity yet complexity of the design and the effectiveness of how it works are really amazing.
Some interesting facts about 16 Cylinder Stirling Engine:-
· The Stirling engine basically consists of a closed cylinder possessing two metal surfaces at the top and bottom of the cylinder. The displacer is put between the two plates which is connected to the flywheel through a wire which in turn transfers the mechanical energy during the upward motion.
· When one plate of 16 Cylinder Stirling Engine is heated, the air near that plate expands and causes the displacer to move upward. At the same time, the flywheel connected to the small piston takes the mechanical energy from the flywheel and push the displacer which aids in the downward system.
· When the displacer reaches the top position the small piston moves downward which in turn enables the compress air to fill in the cylinder and push the displacer downward.
· The upward and downward movement of the displacer and piston both makes the loop which in turn results in the circular motion of the flywheel.
· The engine mechanism of the 16 cylinder Stirling Engine is very simple when compared to other types of reciprocating engine types as no valves are needed and the fuel burner system is relatively simple.
· The Stirling Engine uses the single-phase working fluid which maintains the internal pressure and thus the risk of explosion is relatively low for the properly designed system. In addition, they can be made to run very quietly without an air supply which can be used as air-independent propulsion in space or in submarines.
One of the remarkable features of 16 Cylinder Stirling Engine is that they are flexible. They can be used as coolers in summers and combined heat and power in the winter season. In addition, the waste heat is harvested very easily which makes this engine extremely useful for dual-output heat and power systems.
